Barbara Conte-Gaugel "Beyond Delicious: Landscapes in Oil" at Petit Branch Library Syracuse NY June 2023

Petit Branch Library
105 Victoria Pl. Syracuse NY

Back on the Arts Beat, I hope. This was my first art event since our Fish show at The Tech Garden in January of 2020, which I believe the artist took part in as well. Am stoked she took the time to invite me to the reception! And it was a nicely attended event, very energizing to get to visit with the other area art sceners again.

Please be sure to visit Barbara's website for a more extensive look at her range of artworks and preferred contact methods. All works in the show were for sale and prices were available via a list at the main desk -- I decided to let her artwork labels do the talking below, know how much work goes into them and all have dimensions etc. She is a example for other artists to follow in many ways.

Petit Branch Library was a frequent destination while a lad in Syracuse, mom loved bringing us there and may have volunteered for a while, will ask around. Always a pleasure to see artwork on display in their refined setting, and Barbara's paintings pack the visual punch to make their placement almost ideal.

The framing & presentation is perfect, the rustic look adds an extra layer of immediacy that is echoed in the subject matter. Pretty sure this one was a plein air work done on location.

My second favorite from the group! Just for being so different and focused on the surface, texturing and the colors becoming more abstractly applied.

I could do with a week there.

My favorite! We'll find out what kind of truck that is. Someone has to have made a diecast toy of it. Will report back on this! and apologies for the moire effect caused by the fone camera in zoom state. The surface is marvelously worked with consistency and attention! The objectness of the truck is quite convincing. Will find it. ;]

Books! Have boxes of them in storage and miss the things. Standing there in front of them all made me think of the scene from classic "Galaxy of Terror" where Robert Englund politely refuses to touch one.

"Nahh man, I gotta drive ..."

Excellent.
